After a year of pondering I finally came across the time to design and construct a new desk for the studio that meets all my current needs. The desk I’ve been using for the past couple of decades has definitely served me well but my style of working has changed and so has my need to efficiently use the space that is available to me. The new desk was planned to have a spacious upper work area, pull out painting drawer and drawing trays, drawers for paint storage, huge interior shelf, footrest, and be mobile.
Not too much to ask for a 6.6 square foot area, right?

Pre-fab drawers

Test fitting the drawers

Final prefab

Stained and clear coated

The bottom door becomes a footrest

Drawers waiting to be filled!

Four coats of high gloss clear coat makes almost a mirror surface

Painting tray on the left, drawing tray on the right

Signed with five coats of clear over top
So now that it is finished I can sit back and relax.
But not for too long, the call back to the canvas is strong.
This brand new tool that will help me creatively work more efficiently, looks very bight and shiny and I am ready to get paint all over it.
