Earlier in the year it was common practice for me to sketch a subject before painting it. The drawings came quickly and I usually began the painting on the same day. As the months passed the number drawings diminished as I started to sketch directly on the canvas.
I’ve grown very fond of drawing on a large surfaces which lets me swing my arm in wild arcs that mirror my brush strokes.
Even so there is still a itch for me to go back and explore a more intimate scale. Perhaps after posting this I will sit back, rest a sketchbook in my lap and turn to a blank page.
